Every registered domain has no less than 2 Name Server records which show where it's hosted i.e. by using these records you direct your domain to the servers of a particular web hosting company. In this way, you've got both your site and your emails handled by the exact same service provider. On the lower level of the Domain Name System (DNS), however, there are a number of other records, like A and MX. The first one shows which server handles the site for a given Internet domain and is always an IP address (123.123.123.123), while the second one indicates which server handles the e-mails and is always an alphanumeric string (mx1.domain.com). For instance, whenever you type a domain address in your web browser, your request is directed through the global DNS system to the provider whose NS records the domain address uses and from there you could be directed to the servers of a different provider provided you have set an IP address of the latter as an A record for your Internet domain. Having separate records for the website and the emails suggests that you can have your website and your emails with two different providers if you wish.

Custom MX and A Records in Cloud Hosting

If you have a cloud hosting account from our company and you would like to direct either your website or your emails to another provider, it will take you literally just 2 mouse clicks to do so. Our Hepsia CP comes with an easy-to-use DNS Records tool, where all your domains and subdomains are going to be listed alphabetically and you're going to be able to see and edit the A and/or MX records for any of them. If you decide to use a different email provider and they ask you to create more MX records than the default two, it won't take more than a few mouse clicks either to add them. You could also set different latency for these records and the lower the latency, the bigger the priority a particular MX record is going to have. The propagation of every record that you change or create is not going to take more than several hours and if necessary, you will also be able to set the so-called Time-To-Live value, which shows how long a record will remain active after it is changed or deleted.

Custom MX and A Records in Semi-dedicated Servers

The Hepsia hosting CP, provided with our semi-dedicated service, will enable you to view the A and MX records for every one of the domain addresses or subdomains in your account and if necessary, to change any of them or set up new ones. Managing these records is incredibly easy as all domains/subdomains will be listed alphabetically, so modifying a record is as simple as entering it in a box and saving the change. Setting up a new one takes just a couple of more clicks and if you experience any troubles, you can check out our instructional videos on how to set up A and MX records. Our system is intuitive enough to be used by people with no previous experience, yet advanced enough to give you full control over all records and to enable you to have different A records even for domain.com and www.domain.com. If you are moving your e-mails to a different company and they ask you to create more than 2 different MX records, you can choose the priority of each one.
